In September 2012, Consumer Reports called on manufacturers to ensure the safety of their pods by changing their transparent containers into opaque ones, and adding child-resistant latches. A number of manufacturers responded and some have added additional safety warnings.

In the meantime, to avoid any problems Keep the pods out of the reach of seniors and children and away from pets. Keep them in a high place or in a secure place to prevent children from mistakenly thinking they're candy, and ensure that the detergent you choose to use is compatible with the washer you have. Be aware that water that is cold particularly if it's below 60 degrees Fahrenheit, could not dissolve the pods, causing your machine to get blocked or leave residue on your fabric.
